Sanima Group background


Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Ltd. (SMTHL) was established and incorporated in the year 2016 as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Company with its Office located at Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu Nepal for the implementation and operation of Middle Tamor Hydropower Project (MTHP).It is promoted by individual promoters from different background, institutional investors majorly related to Sanima Hydro group, Non-resident Nepalis and other institutions which include Banks, Insurance and investment companies. SMTHL is one of the sister organizations of Sanima Hydro Group which was initiated with establishment of Sanima Hydropower Limited in 1999 B.S. Sanima Hydropower Ltd. (SHL) was established as a public company with the primary objective of harnessing a vast potential of Nepal’s hydropower sector. The company developed and commissioned Sunkoshi Small Hydropower Plant (2.6 MW) in the year 2005. After successful commission of Sunkoshi Plant, the need of strong engineering team was realized which could provide engineering consulting services to in-house projects of Sanima as well as external clients. As a result, Sanima Hydro and Engineering Pvt. Ltd (SHEPL), a private sector company was established in the year 2005 AD (2062 BS) as a sister organization of Sanima Hydropower Ltd. (SHL). SHEPL identified a potential site in Tamor River basin in Taplejung district of Nepal and obtained the survey license of the project on 14th February 2008 A.D (2nd Falgun 2064 B.S).

In the year 2009 AD 14th Nov. (29th Kartik 2065 BS) a special purpose vehicle “SPV” company – Tamor Sanima Energy Pvt. Ltd (TSE), was formed to further carry out Middle Tamor Hydropower Project (MTHP) and Upper Tamor Hydropower Project (415 MW) – upstream project owned by Sanima Hydro Group. The survey license of MTHP was then transferred from SHEPL to TSE on 27th June 2011 AD (23th Ashar, 2068 BS) in order to implement both the projects in an optimum and cost effective manner. In order to develop Middle Tamor Hydropower Project a separate “SPV” company – Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Ltd (SMTHL) was established in the year 2016 AD (Baishakh 2073 BS). The generation license of MTHP was then transferred from TSE to SMTHL on 2nd November 2017 AD (2074/07/16).

The Generation License of the Project was obtained initially for 54 MW on 5 June 2017, and subsequently the design was revised and generation license for the revised capacity of 73MW was obtained on 10 December 2018.The main objective of this company is to build, own, operate and transfer Middle Tamor Hydropower Project (73 MW) located in Taplejung district of Nepal.
